In 2018, Aleyda Sanchez founded Central Care Counseling Services with a singular mission: to provide culturally competent mental health services to the Hispanic and Latino communities. She started as a solo practitioner, driven by a desire to break down the significant taboos surrounding mental health within her community. However, as her practice grew, so did the challenges of scaling while maintaining high-quality, personalized care.
Aleyda’s journey from solo practitioner to successful business leader is an inspiring example of entrepreneurial growth, made possible by the resources and support she found at the Nashville Business Incubation Center (NBIC). Her experience highlights the importance of community, trust, and a shift in mindset for business owners looking to grow and expand.
Like many entrepreneurs, Aleyda quickly realized that running every aspect of a growing business was unsustainable. Though passionate about her work, she found it difficult to scale Central Care Counseling Services without sacrificing the quality of care that her clients deserved. It was at this point that Aleyda sought guidance and resources to help her grow her practice effectively.
Drawn to NBIC, she joined a cohort of women entrepreneurs, all facing similar challenges in their businesses. The sense of community and mutual support that Aleyda found at NBIC became an essential factor in her professional growth. Reflecting on the experience, Aleyda shared, “I think that’s what NBIC has really given me. It’s a powerful woman group.”
One of the most significant lessons Aleyda learned through NBIC was the importance of trusting her team and delegating responsibilities. For many entrepreneurs, letting go of control can be one of the hardest parts of scaling a business. Aleyda discovered that in order to grow, she needed to transition from doing everything herself to empowering her staff to take on key roles.
“That helped that mind shift of you’re not every aspect of your job; your hands don’t always have to be in the cookie jar,” Aleyda explained. With this new mindset, she began to trust her team and focus on her strengths as a leader.
Today, Central Care Counseling Services has expanded significantly. Aleyda now oversees a team of six therapists and five interns, all providing culturally competent mental health services to a diverse clientele. By incorporating interns into her practice, Aleyda has been able to offer more free services, furthering her mission of making mental health care accessible to underserved communities.
“I have more confidence that my staff can do it. And so that was a big one, along with trust,” Aleyda said. “Without my staff and without the community, I would not be where I am. In a way, NBIC has also become my community.”
Aleyda’s success has not only allowed her to grow her practice but also to give back to the community. As a licensed clinical supervisor, Aleyda is now able to mentor and supervise future mental health professionals in Tennessee. Her goal is to help strengthen the bilingual clinical workforce, ensuring that more Latinos can provide essential mental health services.
Through her leadership and commitment, Aleyda is working to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health in Hispanic and Latino communities. Central Care Counseling Services offers psychoeducation and support groups, helping to raise awareness and provide much-needed services to individuals and families.
Looking back on her journey, Aleyda encourages future entrepreneurs and NBIC program participants to stay open-minded and always be eager to learn. “I think sometimes, as an entrepreneur, you think you know it all. But you will never know it all,” she said. “There are always things that you can sharpen up your skills on.”
Aleyda also emphasizes the importance of building relationships and seizing every opportunity to tell your business story. “Every time you meet someone, that is your future client. That’s your future partner. That’s your future opportunity. And I think that rubbing elbows with strong-minded people around you will only strengthen who you are in your journey.”
Aleyda Sanchez’s story is a testament to the power of community, mentorship, and continuous learning. Through her journey with NBIC, she has transformed from a solo practitioner into a business leader, providing essential mental health services to her community. Her dedication to breaking down mental health stigma and strengthening the bilingual clinical workforce will continue to impact the Hispanic and Latino communities for years to come.
For entrepreneurs facing the challenges of growth and scaling, Aleyda’s experience serves as a reminder that seeking support, trusting your team, and staying open to new opportunities are key to long-term success.
